During our short stay in Melbourne for the 2014 Australian Grand Prix our base was at this self-contained apartment located opposite Albert Park, the venue for the race. The apartment is close to tram stations as well as shops and local restaurants.
The apartments are housed in a 3 storey building with only stair access. So if you have a lot of luggage or travelling with the elderly, do ask for a unit on the ground floor.

Albert Road Serviced Apartments, South Melbourne
We drove from Adelaide and arrived around 6pm. We called prior and received instruction on retrieving key to our apartment. After a 10 hour drive from Adelaide, it was really great to check-in to a nice and cozy apartment.
For those who are driving, free parking is somewhat limited with only 3 parking lots available for residents. However, ticketed roadside parking is available.
The apartment’s décor is modern and it is clean. The door opens to a small dining area on the left and a cozy living room.

The cozy living room
We got a surprise when we were “upgraded” to a 2-bedroom apartment even though we had booked a 1-bedroom apartment. As there were only two of us, the extra beds were not used.

Twin beds in the second bedroom
Washing and drying facilities are also available in the spacious bathroom. This is a plus point for travellers who prefer to travel light. There is only one bathroom in the apartment.

Bathroom does not have a bathtub, only a shower

Plenty of space at the wash basin for your toiletries
The apartment’s kitchen is very well equipped with sufficient kitchen equipment and appliances to self cater.

The well equipped kitchen
We made full use of the kitchen and cooked breakfast and dinner during our stay.

A hearty breakfast to start the day

We paid AUD190 per night for this apartment but it was good value for money!
the building would be right at home in an episode of ‘Poirot’.
