klia2 – Part 1

The new low cost carrier terminal, klia2, opens to travellers on 2nd May 2014 after being much delayed and over budget.  klia2 is the world’s largest purpose-built terminal for low-cost carriers with a planned capacity for 45 million passengers per annum.

It consists of three buildings – the Main Terminal, the Satellite building and shopping mall.

The following airlines operate from klia2 :

  1. AirAsia
  2. AirAsia X
  3. AirAsia Philippines
  4. Thai AirAsia
  5. Indonesia AirAsia
  6. Tiger Air
  7. Cebu Pacific
  8. Mega Maldives

Prior to its opening, Malaysia Airports Berhad held an Open Day on 27th April 2014 for the public to visit the new terminal including a tour of the runway.

The new terminal is a vast improvement over the present LCCT.  It’s more spacious with better facilities though questions still linger on the safety of the runway and some of the structures.  Airport users will enjoy a more pleasant experience.

Here is a pictorial report of my visit to the klia2 Open Day :

There are 4 rows of check-in counters.  In addition, check-in kiosks are also available.  Do you know what these people are queuing for?
