Shibuya Crossing

If you are in Tokyo, one of the things that you must do is visit this unique feature and landmark of the city – the Shibuya Crossing.

Shibuya Crossing, also known as Shibuya Scramble Crossing, is a very large crossing spanning several busy roads outside the Shibuya JR/Metro station.  It is one of the busiest pedestrian crossings in the world.

Traffic drive through the busy intersection throughout the day.  But when the traffic lights turn red at this intersection, they all turn red at the same time.  Traffic stops completely………………….and people start pouring into the intersection from all directions.  They will converge in the middle at one point in organized chaos – bumping, swerving and side stepping one another trying to cross in other directions.

A few minutes later, the frantic mess stops.  As traffic get their turn, people start to fill up every corner of the intersection.  Just as the crowd build up and start spilling onto the road, the lights turn red and chaos starts all over again.
